IDOC Dance was founded by Jennifer Hobson in 2009. IDOC Dance has a faculty of 6 and staff of 4 seasoned and expert dance and fitness teachers. Read below about the Artistic Director and you will see what makes IDOC Dance stand apart from all of the rest!

Jennifer is a professional dancer, educator, choreographer, and dance consultant. Jennifer is finishing her 2nd Masters of Educational Leadership from Walden University, holds a Masters of Arts in Education, specializing in Dance Education from RU, holds a Bachelors of Arts in Dance, specializing in performance and choreography from Texas Woman's University; and, holds an Honors Diploma from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, in Dallas, Texas. Jennifer is also a Texas Certification Teacher in Secondary Dance and received an Award of Excellence in Dunham Technique awarded by the honorable April Berry, a Dunham technique expert.  Jennifer hopes to compelte her Doctoral in Religious Dance, in 2011.

 

Jennifer has taught at Dallas Black Dance Academy (1990-1998), Contemporary Arts Society, Lisbon Elementary (1995-2003), Collin County Community College, Royal Ballet and all that jazz, Coppell House of Dance, TWU's Community Dance Center, Move Studio, JL Long Middle School, Florence Middle School, Edison Learning Center, Sunset High School, Hampton Preparatory, and The Colony Dance.  As an educator and teacher, Jennifer has educated many students to success. Many of her students have attended Booker T. Washington HSPVA,  have studied at such prestigous dance institutions such as TCU, TWU, SMU, Julliard, CalArts and more.  Some of Jennifer's most successful students are Chris Vu, Ebony Cunningham, Alicia Pegasus, Katricia Lithicum, Aerial Vanzant, Elizabeth Espie, Calvin, and Brittany Thomas, j ust to name a few.

 

 

Jennifer was an original dancer in the Dallas Summer Musical's, Gershwin Miles Davis' Porgy and Bess (1998) under the direction of legendary Hope Clark, and starred in the role of 'Lily'.  Jennifer has danced alongside some of the greatest dancers in dance history: Sarita Allen, the Bellamy Brothers, among others.  Jennifer has performed works by "Babba" Chuck Davis, Heywood "Woody" McGriff, Christopher Huggins, Mary Williford-Shade, David Parsons, Andre George, Darryl B. Sneed, John Meade, Milton Meyers, Bebe Miller, Carla Watley-Daniels, Dereque Whitures, Hope Clark, Debra McWaters of Broadway Theater Project, and other American Legends of Dance. Jennifer was a back-up dancer for Franky Beverly and Maze during a local tour in Dallas, Texas in 2004.  Jennifer's professional memberships include dancing with Dallas Black Dance Theater 2nd Company in 1994-1995 under the direction of Dereque Whiturs, Dallas Black Dance Theater from 1997-1998, JAADE Dance Theater (formerly in Ft. Worth, Texas), and original member of NOVA Dancing Company under the direction of Andre George, Kah Dance Project where Jennifer was the Rehearsal Director, and One Accord Dance.  Jennifer was also a member of the 1997 UT Austin Repertory Company during the Fall Semester and the Repertory Company  at Booker T. Washington for two years, under the direction of Lily Catabut Weiss. Jennifer was a guest artist with Beckles Dancing Company in 2003 as well, and was adjudicated and selected to performed at the former Dallas Morning News Dance Festival.  Most recently, Jennifer performed for in a Direct TV industrial in April of 2010 for more than 4,000 audience members.  Jennifer has appeared and performed on Good Morning Texas, Channel 8 Televion, Dallas Community Television, and has been reviewed numerous times in the Dallas Morning News. Jennifer has had the pleasure of performing with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and was featured in an editorial. 

 

Jennifer's choreography credits are numerous, and have been performed in New York, Georgia, and Texas. Jennifer was the choreographer for the late Jazz & Blues Recording Artist Jeanette Brantly, in local performances at the State Fair of Texas. Her choreography was also selected thru adjudication for the Dallas Morning News Dance Festival. Her most recent accomplishment is that of Choreographer and Advisor to the Director at the Dallas Children's Theater, where Jennifer choreographed the Off-Broadway, national touring play, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters. Jennifer's work was reviewed nation wide with exceptional reviews; and, was utilized in a state-wide educational forum.  Jennifer choreography won 2nd place at the Regional Star Systems Competition in 2010. Jennifer is currently an Image Consultant for 100% Records, where she directed all dance aspects in the R&B/Pop Recording Artist Dehz 'Sedated' video. Jennifer is also a sought after Master Choreographer for Christian Dance Conferences, and has choreographed for the "For His Glory" and "The Mount" Praise Dance Conference. Jennifer was the Choreographer in Residence for Contemporary Arts Society, a non-profit dance organization from 1996-2003.

 

Over the years, Jennifer has earned numerous awards including but not limited to the 2009 Region 10 'Shero' Award, Heywood "Woody" McGriff Presidential Scholar in Dance (Attended UT from 1997-1998), Dallas Black Dance Theater's "Keeping the Dream Alive" Award (1997), National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts (YoungArts) Winner & Awardee in Choreography and African Dance (1997), John Hofsas Choreographer of the Year, First Annual Booker T. Washington HSPVA Alumni Scholarship Winner, and NAACP Act-SO 1st Place Winner, and many more. Jennifer was listed in American's Who's Who Among High School Students from 1996-1997. Jennifer was the American Biographical Institutes Woman of the Year Nominee and member in 2002-2003. Jennifer's professional members include the National Professional Women Association (current) and she was a previous member of the Board of Directors for the Dallas Dance Council; as well as a former Advisory Board member.

 

In commercial work, Jennifer was the featured soloist in a Pepsi International Marketing Ad and commercial in 1992-1993. Jennifer was previously represented by Clipse Modeling Agency and the Renee Adam's Agency.  Jennifer was featured in three music video's produced and directed by Stone Core Films; and was the featured model in the video "Coming to America". Jennifer previously modeled for the youth department at JC Penney's of the former Prestonwood Mall in Dallas, Texas; and, in the youth department in Macy's at the world famous Galleria Mall in Dallas, Texas. Lastly, Jennifer modeled for LimitedExpress Inc and was one of the first models for "Multiples" in the 1990's. Jennifer Hobson is a multi-talented professional and looks forward to sharing her gift and talents with the world.
